Up for auction is a charming and historically highly interesting textile rarity: An antique Manastir kilim, hand-woven around 1900. This rare type of kilim represents the fascinating cultural history of the Manastir weavers, who combined traditional Balkan influences with Anatolian weaving artistry. The piece captivates with its extraordinary, almost modern-looking design: The sand-colored, hexagonal central field is flanked by striking, geometric diamond complexes in indigo blue and white. This composition is embedded within a warm, madder-red main field with high-contrast, richly patterned longitudinal borders displaying a delicate, wavy S-motif (symbols of protection and good fortune). The piece is in generally good condition with a very beautiful, authentic patina and expressive natural dyes. As an honest testament to its history, the weave features a small hole in the field (see detailed photos), which can be professionally secured with minimal effort if desired. A wonderful exhibit for collectors of historical flatweaves and an excellent accent piece for exclusive interiors. • Condition: Generally good (authentic collector's condition, one small hole in the weave). • Dimensions (Metric): 100 by 60 cm.
