Lot 452 RARE KOTA MASK ( EMBOLI )

Lot without reserve. Wood, pigments, beads, shells, plant fibre. There is sacrificial matter embedded on the inside of the mask, at the very top. This may be eggshell or thin fragments of bone. This particular type of Emboli mask was collected for a short time in the early 1960’s. Given the amount of wear and use this mask most probably dates from some 20 years earlier, so late 1930’s to early 1940’s. Old French collection. Height 72 cm.
