A RECLINING BOVINE IN CRYSTALLINE CALCITE, 2ND-3RD MILLENIUM BC

Reference: ART4001901

A reclining bull or similar bovine creature made from light brown crystalline calcite.

A very popular subject in the earlier periods of near eastern cultures, the reeling bull represents strength and constant values. In this case as there are no drilled holes for suspension, we can conclude that the the object was used for a votive function, possibly in a small domestic shrine.

53 mm. Light brown/beige crystalline calcite. Middle eastern Bronze Age 2/3 rd mill. B.C.
