Lot 348 AN OTTOMAN RED EMBROIDERED SILK KISWA FRAGMENT, TURKEY OR EGYPT 20TH CENTURY

A fragment from the inner curtain of the sacred kiswa that lines the interior wall of the Kaaba, woven in cream-colored silk against a rich dark red background. The design features chevron patterns incorporating lamp motifs, alongside circular medallions and flowing zigzag bands that create a continuous chain of stylized “7” shapes.

Inscriptions:
Central band: The Shahada (Kalimat al-Tawhid). Upper band: A verse from Surah al-Baqara (2:114). Lower band: A verse from Surah Al 'Imran (3:96). Lobed medallions: Alternating invocations, Ya Hannan, Ya Mannan ("O Most Compassionate, O Most Generous Benefactor"). Circular medallions: Alternating invocations, Dhu'l-Jalal wa'l-Ikram ("Possessor of Majesty and Honour"). Dimensions: 110 by 142 cm
