Lot 165 A SYRIAN HAMMERED BRASS BOWL, 19TH CENTURY

A finely engraved Syrian brass bowl of rounded, hemispherical form, with a broad, slightly flaring rim. The exterior is profusely decorated with Arabic calligraphy in elegant Thuluth script, arranged in a central horizontal band within elaborate cartouches, interspersed with symmetrical floral arabesques and scrolling foliate motifs. The decoration is framed by intricate geometric interlace borders along the upper and lower edges. The interior is plain, with a darkened surface, while the exterior displays a warm golden-brown patina. The underside is undecorated, showing natural wear and oxidation consistent with age. 1802 gr.
