Lot 170 A QAJAR PIERCED BRASS CANDLESTICK, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY

A Qajar brass candlestick of architectural form, featuring a broad, circular, stepped base, a tall cylindrical shaft and a flaring, trumpet-shaped candle nozzle. The entire surface is elaborately decorated with intricate pierced and engraved ornamentation, comprising Arabic calligraphic cartouches, interlacing geometric patterns, scrolling arabesques and stylised vegetal motifs. The shaft is divided into decorative registers by raised horizontal bands, with prominent elongated cartouches framed by dense openwork. The flared base is similarly adorned with symmetrical foliate designs and elaborate geometric interlace, while the lower edge is finished with a continuous band of repeating pointed arches. 640 gr.
