Lot 4 A NORTH-INDIAN SANDSTONE CARVING OF SHIVA, 10TH-11TH CENTURY

A finely carved North Indian sandstone sculpture depicting the Hindu god Shiva standing in a frontal pose, wearing a tall headdress, elaborate jewellery and a draped garment secured by an ornamental belt. His serene face is framed by elongated ears, while one arm is raised and a smaller attendant figure is seated beside his leg. The sculpture is carved in the round, with a richly articulated silhouette and remains of finely modelled details. The surface displays extensive weathering and natural patination, consistent with its age. Mounted on a modern display base.
