Lot 15 A MANUSCRIPT OF ARJUZAT AL-ʿALLAMA ABI JAMIL, DATED 1309 AH/1891–1892 AD

An Arabic manuscript on paper, comprising 26 lines per page, written in a flowing Maghribi script in black ink, with headings, section divisions and selected words highlighted in red. The text is densely arranged across the pages, with occasional marginal annotations and corrections. The manuscript is housed in a deep brown leather binding, of restrained and traditional North African character. The manuscript contains the Arjūzat al-ʿAllāma Abī Jamil, a didactic grammatical poem composed in the rajaz metre, presenting the principles of Arabic syntax and grammatical analysis in concise, easily memorised verse. The work follows the pedagogical tradition of Ibn Hisham al-Ansari’s Qawaʿid al-Iʿrab, addressing such subjects as sentences and their grammatical functions, prepositions and adverbs, the syntactical treatment of important particles, and common difficulties in grammatical analysis. The manuscript is dated Friday, Rabiʿ al-Awwal 1309 AH, corresponding to 1891–1892 AD.
