Lot 17 ARABIC MANUSCRIPT IN MAGHRIBI SCRIPT – JURISPRUDENCE, MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE, NORTH AFRICA 19TH CENTURY

Arabic manuscript on paper, written in a fine Maghribi script, comprising approximately 27 lines per page. The text is extensively annotated and supplemented with red-ink marginal and interlinear notes. The manuscript is a work of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) dealing principally with matters relating to family law and ritual purity. The text includes discussions of the laws of marriage (nikāḥ), sexual relations, divorce (ṭalāq), and related matrimonial regulations. It also contains sections concerning the rules of menstruation, and post-partum bleeding (nifas), together with discussions of the Arabic language and its grammatical rules. The manuscript further includes explanations and commentaries on selected Qur’anic verses concerning women, marriage and associated legal matters, reflecting the traditional juristic approach to the interpretation of these passages. The dense Maghribi handwriting, extensive use of red rubrication, corrections and annotations, together with the character of the paper, are characteristic of a manuscript produced within the Maghribi manuscript tradition. 24,5 by 19 cm.
