Lot 200 A QAJAR PERSIAN MANUSCRIPT ON ANATOMY, PERSIA 19TH CENTURY

Persian manuscript on paper, a comprehensive treatise on human anatomy, written in elegant black NastaʿlIq script, comprising approximately 473 folios, each page arranged in 11 lines. The manuscript is associated with the reign of Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar (r. 1848–1896), whose titulature appears in the opening inscription.

The work provides a systematic study of human anatomy, beginning with the history of anatomy and proceeding through the structure and classification of the bones, including those of the skull, upper and lower jaws, nose, pelvis, coccyx and limbs. Further sections examine the joints, cartilage, ligaments, connective tissues and tendons, followed by detailed discussions of the muscular system, including the muscles of the head, eye, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis and upper and lower limbs, as well as the diaphragm.

The manuscript offers a comprehensive account of the form, dimensions, structure and anatomical relationships of the principal bones, muscles, cartilage, ligaments and associated tissues, reflecting the development of medical and scientific literature in nineteenth-century Persia.

The final folio bears three ownership seals, together with a dated inscription of 1262 AH / 1845–46 AD, providing evidence of the manuscript’s ownership history.
