Lot 218 DALA'IL AL-KHAYRAT BY MUHAMMAD BIN SULAYMAN AL-JAZULI (D. 1465 AD), 18TH/19TH CENTURY

An Arabic devotional manuscript on paper, comprising the celebrated Dala’il al-Khayrat wa Shawariq al-Anwar fi Dhikr al-Salat ʿala al-Nabi al-Mukhtar, the renowned collection of prayers and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad composed by Imam Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Jazuli (d. 1465). Each page is arranged in 15 lines of neat black Naskh script, with selected devotional words and names, including Allahumma, Allah and Muhammad, highlighted in red ink. The text is set within cloud-shaped reserves against a finely sprinkled gilt ground and enclosed within delicate gilt and polychrome ruling. The opening page is richly illuminated with gilt and polychrome decoration. The manuscript is further distinguished by two detailed devotional illustrations: a view of al-Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, with the Kaaba at the centre surrounded by the principal maqams; and a view of al-Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina, depicting the Minbar and al-Rawda al-Sharifa. The final page contains the Duʿa al-Khatm, the traditional prayer recited upon completion of the Dala’il al-Khayrat. Housed partially in a leather binding. 10 by 16 cm
