Opaque watercolour and gold on paper, depicting Guru Nanak seated upon a raised, canopied platform, surrounded by attendants, musicians and courtiers in richly patterned costumes. The assembly unfolds within an elaborate multi-level palace pavilion, articulated with arched balconies, white architectural details, pierced railings and richly ornamented interiors. Figures hold fans, musical instruments and offerings, while flowering shrubs and formal garden beds enliven the surrounding architecture. The composition is framed by a broad red-painted border and distinguished by extensive use of gold throughout the costumes, architecture and decorative details. 33 by 35 cm.
