Lot 237 AN ILLUMINATED PERSIAN CALLIGRAPHIC PANEL, PERSIA 19TH CENTURY

Persian manuscript leaf on paper, comprising two couplets of Sufi poetry, elegantly executed in flowing Nastaliq script in deep black ink against a richly illuminated ground of burnished gold. The composition is arranged in four horizontal bands of calligraphy, each inscription enclosed within irregular, scalloped cartouches, creating a graceful interplay between the rhythmic calligraphic forms and the luminous golden ground. The calligraphic field is surrounded by finely ruled polychrome borders in blue, red, green and gold, framed within several concentric bands, lending the composition a refined and harmonious appearance. At the lower edge, an inscription identifies the calligrapher as a student of Sayyid Mir Muhammad Amir, providing an important indication of the calligraphic lineage and scholarly context of the leaf.
