Of rectangular form, finely painted in polychrome and heightened with black and gold against a warm amber lacquer ground, depicting an animated courtly hunting procession set within a stylised rocky landscape. At the centre, a mounted nobleman, accompanied by attendants on foot and horseback, advances through the scene, while musicians carrying drums and long trumpets provide ceremonial accompaniment. Courtiers and retainers gather in groups amidst flowering shrubs, cypress trees and swirling cloud bands, with deer and other game populating the foreground, evoking the royal hunt (shikār), a favoured theme of Qajar painting. Executed with delicate brushwork and enclosed beneath a lustrous lacquer surface.
