Lot 166 A DOUBLE-TUBE GLASS UNGUENTARIUM WITH APPLIED HANDLE, CIRCA 4TH-5TH CENTURY AD

A finely blown amber glass unguentarium composed of two slender cylindrical tubes fused along their length to form a symmetrical double vessel. The tubes rise from a rounded, elongated base with smoothly convex ends and terminate in broad, separately opened mouths with neatly fire-rounded rims. A substantial loop handle, drawn from a single trail of glass, arches gracefully above the vessel, its ends neatly attached to the shoulders of each tube, allowing the container to be suspended or carried.
The body is further enlivened by four applied horizontal trails wound around both cylinders, binding the paired compartments into a unified composition while adding subtle decorative articulation and structural reinforcement. The warm honey-amber glass deepens to rich reddish-brown tones toward the base and handle terminals, creating a striking chromatic gradient enhanced by a glossy surface and delicate iridescence.
