Lot 285 A PAIR OF OTTOMAN EMBROIDERED VELVET PANELS, 19TH CENTURY

A fine pair of Ottoman embroidered textile panels worked on deep crimson velvet with gilt and polychrome silk threads. One is circular and the other square, each decorated with elaborate floral compositions centered by a large stylized blossom surrounded by scrolling vines, palmettes, and carnations within richly embroidered borders. The metallic embroidery is executed with gilt thread couched onto the velvet ground rather than applied metal wire, accented with silk embroidery in shades of blue, green, ivory, and orange.
