Lot 232 A NISHAPUR PAINTED POTTERY BOWL, PERSIA 10TH CENTURY

Reference: ART3008444

A pottery bowl with broad, shallow hemispherical form rising from a small ring foot, with gently flaring walls and a slightly everted rim. The vessel is wheel-thrown in buff earthenware and covered with a light slip, creating a smooth surface for painted decoration. The exterior remains largely plain, while the interior is decorated at the center with a stylized bird, rendered with simple, fluid brushstrokes in yellow-brown pigment. This motif is enclosed by circular lines that frame the composition and guide the eye outward. Around the central medallion runs a radiating band of petal-like panels, each containing small circular and curvilinear details in brown, yellow, and touches of red. D: 25 cm.
