A manuscript page from Ferdawsi’s Shahnameh, depicting a royal court scene identified as Kay Khosrow holding audience in a garden setting. Kay Khosrow, one of the most celebrated kings of Persia in the Shahnameh, is portrayed seated upon a carpeted platform beneath fruit-bearing trees, wearing a crown and a richly colored robe. He raises his hand in a gesture of command or discourse while a figure in red bows before him, suggesting the presentation of a petition, message, or tribute. Around the king stand courtiers and attendants, while musicians seated nearby play stringed instruments, evoking the refined atmosphere of the Persian royal court. The text is arranged in four columns in nasta‘liq script, with a painting executed in opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper.
Condition: paper tears repaired with tape, water staining 22,5 by 15,5 cm.
