Finely worked letter opener with a long, spatulate blade engraved with birds in flight and a flowering branch. The sculptural handle is richly ornamented in high relief with Daikoku, the god of wealth, standing beside a rice bale and holding his magic mallet, accompanied by a rat—his traditional attribute. Executed in mixed metals with gilt highlights and subtle colored inlays, the handle is further enriched with birds and foliage. Length: 31 cm.
