Lot 380 AN ILLUMINATED QAJAR QURAN WITH TAFSIR, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY

Arabic manuscript on paper, each folio featuring 14 lines of elegant black naskh script, with a Persian interlinear translation rendered in red ink. Verses are marked by gold and polychrome roundels outlined in black and accented with blue points. Surah headings are written in red thuluth script within cartouches set against a gold ground, flanked by gold and polychrome floral illumination. Text divisions are highlighted with gold borders and ruled lines in black and gold.
Each page includes marginal tafsir commentary in Arabic naskh and Persian nastaliʿq scripts.

The two opening bifolia are fully illuminated in gold, with each page containing five lines of the surah written within cloud bands reserved against a gold-sprinkled background, surrounded by smaller tafsir text also set in cloud bands. Catchwords and significant titles appear in red ink.

Bound in a gilt Qajar lacquer binding, featuring a central cartouche enclosing floral motifs, surrounded by spandrels filled with scrolling flowers.
