Lot 402 A QAJAR 'SHAH ABBAS' MOULDED POTTERY TILE, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY

A rectangular, moulded, and underglaze-painted pottery tile depicting Shah Abbas I, the eminent Safavid ruler, seated at the center of a royal court scene. He is shown cross-legged on an ornate carpet beneath a richly draped canopy, portrayed with regal poise, wearing a detailed turban and a robe adorned with floral motifs. Surrounding him are four courtiers or attendants, kneeling respectfully, each depicted in traditional Persian attire with finely painted garments, turbans, and distinctive facial features, including curled moustaches. The deep cobalt-blue background accentuates the vivid reds, greens, and yellows throughout the composition. In the foreground fruit, vessels, and cups are arranged in symmetrical balance, representing courtly abundance. The border is embellished with a scrolling vine motif, framing the scene like a miniature painting. 43 by 36 cm.
