Lot 749 A PAIR OF HIJAZI WOODEN DOORS, 19TH CENTURY

Reference: ART3007625

A pair of doors, crafted from aged, weathered wood. A central vertical bar with ornate finials reinforces the structure. The door is constructed in two panels, joined in the middle, each adorned with ring-shaped metal handles, typically used as knockers. 100 by 55 cm.

The surface is richly decorated with two horizontal bands of carved Arabic inscriptions; carved geometric and arabesque motifs near the top, framed by an architectural niche or arch-like form, and rows of metal studs (bosses or nail heads) running horizontally, probably both decorative and functional.

Doors like these were often found in mosques, the homes of notables, or religious schools, designed to be both functional and symbolic.
