Dur al-Mukhtar (دُرُّ المختار) is a classical Hanafi fiqh text written by Sheikh Muhammad Ala al-Din al-Haskafi, an important 17th-century Islamic scholar. The full title of the work is Dur al-Mukhtar Sharh Tanweer al-Absar (دُرُّ المختار شرح تنوير الأبصار), which translates to "The Precious Jewel: A Commentary on Tanweer al-Absar." This book serves as a detailed commentary on Tanweer al-Absar (تنوير الأبصار), authored by the renowned Hanafi scholar Shams al-Din al-Ramli. Tanweer al-Absar itself is a seminal text that compiles various principles of Islamic jurisprudence based on the Hanafi school. Dur al-Mukhtar is considered one of the most authoritative works in Hanafi jurisprudence and is widely studied and referenced by scholars and students of Islamic law. The book covers a broad range of legal topics, including ritual acts of worship (such as prayer, fasting, and zakat), commercial transactions, personal status laws (such as marriage and inheritance), and penal law, among other aspects of Islamic legal theory and practice. Sheikh al-Haskafi's commentary offers deeper insights, clarifies difficult passages, and explains the application of the rulings within the context of the Hanafi madhhab. His writing style is known for its precision, and his explanations are highly regarded in the legal community.
