Grisaille pen and ink heightened with gold on paper.
Laid down on album leaf decorated a youth and an old man accompanied with a dog, ruled in gilt and polychrome borders. The margin decorated with gilt lotus and peony scrolls.
The subject of a youth paired with an older man, often a dervish or a poet, illustrated the relationship of the spiritual guide or 'pir' and his disciple, the 'murid'.
Painting 10.5 by 16 cm.
