Lot AN OTTOMAN METAL THREAD EMBROIDERED CURTAIN WITH THE TUGHRA OF MAHMUD II (AH 1223-1255/ AD 1808-1839)

Of rectangular form, the black field with applied thick silver and gilt embroidery forming calligraphic cartouches surrounding an inner mihrab with columns and mosque lamp .The outer border is embellished in gilt and silver wires with a design of floral motifs. The hanging lamp, in mirrored inscriptions '' Oh Fatah'', above a U-shaped band on red ground enclosing inscriptions in gilt wires and large thuluth script of v. 128 from surah al-Tawbah, between the columns three lines in gilt wires of surah al-Ahzab v.45-v.47, above the tughra of Mahmud II. All surrounded by six bands on a green ground of Ayat al-Kursi from surah al-Baqraa with six small roundels enclosing “ the four Rashidun Caliphs, Hasan and Hussain”. 160 by 260 cm
