A PERSIAN SILVER INLAID COVERED BRONZE JUG, KHURASAN STYLE, 19TH CENTURY

Of baluster form with vertical mouth on spreading foot, the associated handle linking the midriff and mouth with lion thumbpiece, the body heavily decorated with silver inlaid and engraved roundels enclosing warriors riding mythical beasts, set between two inscriptions filled bands. The cylindrical mouth elegantly engraved with silver inlaid inscriptions in kufic script with heads at top of ''the Lam and Alef'. The cover is similarly stylized with a bird finial.

Inscriptions: around the body, mouth, base and cover:
''bi'l-yumn wa al-barakah wa/ wa al-dawlah wa al-sur/ur wa al-sa'adah wa/ wa al-salamah wa al-kir/amah wa al-shifa'ah/ wa l-tammah al-sahib (sic) [li-sahibihi]''. ''With good fortune and blessing and wealth and joy and happiness and well-being and generosity and [Prophet's] intercession and plenitude, the owner (sic) [to its owner]''
