AN ISLAMIC GOLD DINAR MINTED DURING THE ABBASID DYNASTY, THE CALIPH ALMUKTAI, IN 292 AH/904 AD AT MECCA

An Islamic coin of the Abbasid period , Gold dinar minted at Mecca in 292 AH/904 AD. A very fine and rare Islamic coin. Weight: 2.59 gr.
Condition: good very fine.
Rarity: very rare. (A 243; Bern 226 Ef, 3 refs). Engraved to the front with a central circle enclosing Kalimaat al-Tawhid, the inner ring: In the name of God, this dinar was minted in 292 AH at Mecca. The outer ring: v.4 from surah Al-Rum To the back side a central circle enclosing "Allah, Muhammad messenger of God, al-Muktafi", the outer ring with v.9 from surah Al-Saff.

CTALOGUE NOTE
Abu Muḥammad Ali ibn Aḥmad, better known by his regnal name al-Muktafī bi-llah, was the Caliph of the Abbasid Caliphate from (902-908 AD). More liberal and sedentary than his militaristic father al-Mu'tadid, al-Muktafi essentially continued his policies, although most of the actual conduct of government was left to his viziers and officials. His reign saw the defeat of the Qarmatians of the Syrian Desert, and the reincorporation of Egypt and the parts of Syria ruled by the Tulunid dynasty. The war with the Byzantine Empire continued with alternating success, although the Arabs scored a major victory in the Sack of Thessalonica in 904. His death in 908 opened the way for the installation of a weak ruler, al-Muqtadir, by the palace bureaucracy, and began the terminal decline of the Abbasid Caliphate.

أبو محمد علي المكتفي بالله بن أحمد المعتضد بالله بن الموفق طلحة بن المتوكل بالله العباسي، بن المعتضد أبي العباس أحمد بن الموفق طلحة بن المتوكل. وأمه تركية اسمها جيجك، ولد سنة 264هـ، وبويع بالخلافة بعد وفاة أبيهِ المعتضد بعهد منه وذلك في ربيع الآخر سنة 289هـ/ 15 أبريل 902م، ولم يزل خليفة إلى أن توفي في 12 ذي القعدة سنة 295هـ/ 13 أغسطس سنة 908م، فكانت مدته ست سنوات وستة أشهر و19 يوماً.
حارب القرامطة وقاتلهم ببأس وشدة وقتل يحيى بن زكوريه القرمطي سنة 290 هـ، وفي سنة 291 هـ قتل كل من الحسين بن زكوريه القرمطي وغلامه الذي لقب المطوق بالنور وابن عمه عيسى بن مهوريه وهؤلاء بحسب السيوطي من مدعي النبوة فظفر بهم وقتلهم. وفي نفس السنة زفت للمكتفي بالله أخبار فتح انطاليا وغنم المسلمون منها أموالاً كثيرة
