A SASSANIAN GLASS SEALING FROM A VESSEL, 5TH-6TH CENTURY AD

Reference: ART3003534

A Sassanian glass sealing for a jug shaped vessel showing Pegasus standing, raising his right leg, with a wing beneath. The seal would have been below the handle of the vessel, usually a jug. The frequency of these dealings suggest that they might have been official seals for standard measures as were used in Umayyad and Abbasid Egypt with the names of officials applied to similar glass seals.
