A large Japanese hanging drum, called hira-daiko 平太鼓, with a keyaki (Zelkova – Japanese oak wooden) body. On both sides, the drum skins are fastened by a single row of black, dome-shaped rivets. When struck, it produces a powerful, short, low ‘don’ sound.

Suspended from a wide keyaki wooden frame, its ends are carved with swirling cloud motifs, finished with white-painted trims. Adorned with a red silk age’maki (decorative tassel).

Complete with two bachi 撥 (drumsticks).

Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926).

The taiko drum and stand are in a very good original condition with traces conform age. A shrinkage crack in one foot, minor wear leather drum on upper edge. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
