An attractive black lacquered bajô’jingasa 馬上陣笠 (horseback samurai hat), featuring a slightly upturned visor. The front displays a gold maki-e crest mon 紋 (crest) depicting a diamond-shaped emblem known as Takeda bishi 武田菱 (Takeda diamond).
The form imitates the layered structure of a 61-plate kabuto 兜 (helmet), with raised relief detailing. At the apex, it is fitted with a large, four-tiered patinated copper tehen no kanamono 天辺の金物 (decorative apex fitting), shaped like a chrysanthemum kiku 菊 (chrysanthemum). The reverse is adorned with a cord ring and a gold silk age’maki 揚巻 (decorative tassel).
The exterior is finished in glossy black lacquer rôiro’urushi 蝋色漆 (black lacquer), with golden fundame 粉溜地 (matt lacquer) rims. The interior is coated in vibrant red lacquer and fitted with rings designed to secure a head cushion.
