A lacquered wooden katana’kake 刀掛け (sword stand), designed to display seven swords—suitable for housing three full daishô 大小 (long and short sword) sets.
The central panel depicts a gathering of scholars and a child admiring a pair of cranes beneath a pine tree, a traditional symbol of longevity and wisdom. The side panels are adorned with a floral design featuring scrolling foliage.
The scene is rendered in polychrome and gold using hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) and takamaki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief lacquer design) on a dark brown.
