Lot 39 RARE LARGE BRONZE RELIEF PLAQUE DEPICTING 24 GENERALS OF TAKEDA SHINGEN

Reference: ART2002252

A very rare, large and heavy bronze relief plaque depicting the Twenty-Four Generals of Takeda Shingen 武田二十四将 (Takeda Nijūshi-shō). Above the figures is an inscription quoting The Art of War 孙子兵法 (Sunzi Bingfa):
“As swift as wind, as gentle as forest, as fierce as fire, as unshakable as mountain” 疾如風,徐如林,侵掠如火,不動如山. Takeda Shingen’s 武田信玄 (1521–1573) famous battle standard from the Sengoku period.

Beneath the inscription, each general is shown in raised detail, with their respective names hand-written in gold next to them. The Twenty-Four Generals were Takeda Shingen’s most trusted commanders, a legendary group in Japanese history. A third perished during the Battle of Nagashino in 1575, fighting Oda Nobunaga. When Takeda Katsuyori took his own life in 1582, only three of the twenty-four were still in service.

The plaque is signed in the lower right, both in the casting and in gold. Within the plate it reads “C. Tamaka/Tanaku,” while the gold signature states “Image of Akitoshi” 勝利写.

The heavy plaque is expertly mounted in a silk-lined wooden frame behind an acrylic front. A gold metal plate at the bottom reads:
“Bring the gossamer silk elegance of SUZUSHI RELIEF SCULPTURE to your architectural space – Victory Art Planning Co., Ltd. – TOKYO JAPAN”.
