Lot 34 SHINTO WAKIZASHI IN BROWN LACQUER KOSHIRAE

The blade comes with an 18th century koshirae with a brown lacquered scabbard, adorned with a swirling dragon in thin gold lines. The handle covered in ray-skin, wrapped with gold-coloured binding, two gold menuki of samurai with pole-arms. The shakudo Nanako fuchi-kashira (pommels) are decorated with vine. A silvered habaki and an iron sukashi-tsuba decorated with dragons.

Nagasa (blade length): 49 cm
Sugata (configuration): Shinogi-zukuri, iori-mune and a chu-kissaki (medium sized tip)
Kitae (forging pattern): not well visible, but probably ko-itame grain
Hamon (tempering pattern): straight line (suguha)
Boshi (point): Kaeri
Nakago (tang): Kiri (ending in a straight line), decorated with kiri yasurime, 2 mekugi-ana and signed Kanetomo 兼友.

Length 68 cm, Width en depth (tsuba) 7.2 x 6.8 cm.

The Mino-school blade is in a fair condition, in need of a polish, the blade showing traces of blisters and with scratches, the scabbard with scratches and minor loss to the lacquer. Please look at the photos for a clear condition reference.
