An exceptional Eleven-Headed Kannon (Juichimen Kannon) statue, finely carved and richly gilded, housed in its original portable Buddhist shrine (zushi). The figure stands in front of a radiating mandorla with swirling cloud motifs, and the crown bears multiple serene heads, symbolizing compassionate omniscience.
The shrine’s exterior is black lacquered and fitted with ornate metal hardware, while the interior is fully finished in aged gold leaf, exuding reverence and sacredness. According to oral tradition, this piece originates from Ishiyama-dera Temple in Ōtsu, a historically important Tendai Buddhist site.
