Lot 51 A JAPANESE IMARI COVERED BOWL, ARITA, 17TH CENTURY

Reference: ART2001997

A finely crafted Japanese Imari porcelain covered bowl from the 17th century, featuring intricate polychrome decoration and gilding. The domed lid is adorned with vibrant floral motifs, including peonies, set against a deep cobalt-blue ground with swirling patterns and highlighted with gilded accents. The finial takes the form of a gilded lotus bud, adding an elegant touch.

The body of the bowl is decorated with alternating panels, each depicting traditional motifs. One panel showcases a spotted mythical creature, likely a karashishi (lion dog), amidst chrysanthemums and stylized foliage, while the other panels display detailed floral arrangements. The palette is dominated by Imari’s signature colors—iron red, cobalt blue, and gold. Height with cover : 33 cm
