A JAPANESE SUZURIBAKO WRITING BOX, DECORATED WITH FOLDING FANS, MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912)

An almost square suzuribako writing box decorated with folding fans in gold makie-lacquer with some mother-of-pearl inlay work on a black lacquered ground. The walls of the box shows the ichimatsu- checkerboard pattern in black and gold lacquer. The inside of the box is decorated with various autumn grasses in gold makie-lacquer highlighted by silver drops. With a round water dropper, a rectangular ink-stone and an extra tray for writing brushes.
