A TALL JAPANESE SIX-PANEL TIGER SCREEN, EARLY-MID 20TH CENTURY

A striking, large six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) with a painting on shiny golden silk showcasing two tigers 虎 (tora) in a bamboo grove 竹 (take). One tiger stands on a hill, roaring fiercely, while the other rests peacefully on the opposite side of the river.
Signed and sealed in the lower right corner ‘Suiseki’ 翠石, referencing the renowned tiger artist Ôhashi Suiseki 大橋翠石. However, this artwork is not his creation but rather a tribute painted by an unknown artist.
Colour and ink on shiny golden silk mounted on paper, protected by a black lacquered frame.
It is in a good condition with some traces of wear conform age, like some bulging paper. Old restoration of 2 upper bars.
