A lacquer tea caddy 棗 (natsume), cylindrical of shape with a refined design showcasing a pine tree forest 松 (matsu) surrounding a bridge over a meandering river with lively waves, and in the distance a torii 鳥居 (Shinto shrine archway). The lid’s top surface displays a prominent pine tree in front of a traditional Japanese house, bordered by a canted red negoro’nuri-style edge. The motif executed in golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) and takamaki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief lacquer design) over a glossy black lacquered ground, with the lid embellished by shiny blue mother-of-pearl 螺鈿 (raden). The interior and underside coated with glossy black lacquer as well. Including wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box).

Height: 7.cm.
Diameter: 6.8 cm.

The natsume is in a very good original condition.
