Leporello illustration book filled with polychrome shunga paintings. Shunga 春画 (literally “spring pictures”), is an erotic artistic tradition that emerged from early modern Japan, featuring graphic images of sexual activity. In total 19 paintings, 9 on one side, 10 on the other. Each image of the couples is unique. The pairs wear both antique Heian attires to ‘modern’ Taishô hairstyles. The covers with brown silk with a design of stylized ‘rain dragons’ in diamond shapes.
