A low two-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) with a detailed painting of a dragon 龍 (ryû) leaping up from the sea holding a flaming pearl in his claws. The painting on paper is mostly done in black ink 墨 (sumi) on paper, heightened by some white, golden and pink streaks. Signed and sealed by the artist Shioya Shinsen 塩谷深仙 (1931-?) in the lower right corner. He was born in 1931 in the Hyôgo prefecture, and later moved to the Arakawa ward of Tôkyô. Specialized in kachôga (painting of flowers and birds) and sansuiga (painting of mountain and water landscapes).
