A black lacquer bajô jingasa 馬上陣笠 (horseback samurai hat) with a slightly upward-bent visor. Covered with crests 紋 (mon) in golden maki-e depicting a ‘left cross within a circle’ 丸に左十文字 (Maruni Hidari Jyû Monji).
Which is the family crest of the Moriya clan 守矢氏. A member of the Jigi clan, which originated in Suwa District, Shinano Province (present-day Suwa region, Nagano Prefecture), this shrine family has served as the chief priest of the upper shrine of Suwa Taisha Shrine for generations.
The inside coated with red lacquer and finished with a gold lacquer fundame rim. In between the filled cotton cord (functioning as a cushion as well), a 2-character signature visible.
