A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE EWER, QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

The pear-shaped body with a curved spout, joined to the neck with a cloud-shaped strut, opposite an arched loop handle terminating in three moulded bosses simulating pegs holding the handle in place, painted in cobalt blue with characteristic 'heaping and piling', with a large composite floral meander, the open blooms enclosed by scrolling stems with their characteristic leaves. Further decorated with flower scrolls on the spout, a similar band on the handle, lotus-scroll below overlapping upright plantain leaves on the flaring neck.
