A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE 'GRASSHOPPER' 'KRAAK PORCELAIN CHARGER, WANLI PERIOD (1572-1620)

A Chinese porcelain charger, finely decorated to the centre with a star-shaped panel enclosing a grasshopper perched on rocks amongst large flowers in a lake scene, all surrounded by further lappet-shaped panels enclosing alternating precious objects, upright plants and peach blossoming branches separated by brocade designs. The reverse is decorated with roundels enclosing lingzhi fungus.
