A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE TABLE SCREEN ON A SPINACH JADE STAND

The table screen is carved to one side with a scene of a scholar and an attendant on a bridge with a further scholar by a pavilion, all amongst wisteria, plantain, and pine in a mountainous river landscape. The reverse is incised and decorated in gilt with a further scene of scholars. The stone is of a pale tone with an area of light grey inclusion to the lower section. The stand is carved with archaistic scrolls and it stands on shaped humped feet. The stone is of spinach tone with dark inclusions.

Condition: the plaque with chips to the edges, particularly to the upper right, with associated natural irregularity to the stone; the stand, bruises and chips to the edges, particularly to the underside at one join.
