A CHINESE CARVED JADE CENSER AND COVER, QING DYNASTY (1644–1911)

The censer is raised on three tapered legs issuing from lion masks and carved around the compressed globular body in low relief with a band of archaistic taotie masks, flanked by a pair of bird-form handles with rings. The domed cover is similarly carved surmounted by a hollowed flaring finial. The stone is of a milky tone with some attractive russet and greyish inclusions.
