A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE STUPA, 19TH-20TH CENTURY

The tower is decorated to the body with a band of lion masks above densely scrolling lotus. The domed vessel opens to reveal a gilt Buddha with hands in prayer and seated in dhyanasana. The column is divided into twelve registers of lotus scrolls supporting a parasol surmounted by a beribboned double gourd. The square stand is enameled turquoise and decorated with further flower scrolls. The turquoise-glazed base bears a four-character Qianlong mark.
