A CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE ARMORIAL BEEKMAN DISH, 1730-1735

Reference: ART1008484

A Chinese dish decorated in famille verte enamels with a Chinese water and mountain landscape, continuing on to the rim, rocks, trees and a lake house with bridge and several Chinese figures. In the centre of the dish an octagonal panel painted with a coat of arms. This coat was borne by the Beekman family from Middleburg and Nijmegen, also lived in Bergen op Zoom and in Asperen.
In Canton in South China, VOC merchants ordered porcelain painted with family heraldic emblems for themselves as well as others. This plate featuring a coat of arms set in a coastal landscape is an early example. It was made for the affluent Beekman family of Zeeland.
Diameter: 25 cm.
