Lot 282 A COBALT-BLUE GLASS COVERED VESSEL, 19TH CENTURY

A fine cobalt-blue glass covered vessel, of elegant baluster form raised on a stepped, spreading foot, the body and domed cover richly decorated in gilded floral and foliate ornament against a deep cobalt-blue ground. The decoration includes stylised blossoms, scrolling foliage and finely engraved details, with gilt borders accentuating the rim, shoulders, stem and foot. The domed cover is surmounted by a spherical gilt knop. The vessel is distinguished by its elaborate combination of cobalt-blue glass, transparent elements and extensive gilding. Height: 34 cm.
