A Chinese porcelain box and cover, the sides tapering towards the base. The flat cover has a bevelled edge. Both are covered overall with a transparent ivory-toned glaze. Small boxes such as the present example were inspired by metal prototypes and were used to store valuable items such as cosmetic pigments and fragments of rare, fragrant woods used for incense. Diameter: 9 cm. Height: 5 cm.
