A finely carved creamy white jade sculpture depicting an immortal seated upon a powerful bixie, the mythical guardian beast believed to ward off evil and bring protection. The dynamic composition combines spiritual symbolism with elegant craftsmanship, showcasing flowing contours and expressive detailing characteristic of Han Dynasty jade carving.
Length 11.5 cm.
PROVENANCE From a private Canadian collection. Formerly from Mr. Huang Zhi-Ming, a Taiwanese private collector. Mr. Huang acquired the jade pieces in Hong Kong. Some from Mr. Lai Loy (1926 - 2012), a jade dealer on Hollywood Road well known for handling and supplying archaic jade pieces to collectors, museums and other dealers and some some from private collectors in Hong Kong.
